Six Andalusian podiums in the second phase of the Spanish Children Skiing Cup

Six Andalusian podiums in the second phase of the Spanish Children Skiing Cup

Candela Pradillo, Álvaro del Pino, Marcos Álvarez, Oliver Martín and Javier Fernández all climbed up the podium in Sierra Nevada

Five riders from the Andalusian Winter Sports Federation (FADI) climbed the podium this weekend in the second phase of the Spanish Alpine Skiing Cup for children, in the three Giant races - two U14 and one U16 - held on the Prado de las Monjas piste in Sierra Nevada, in which the Catalan and Aragonese federations were the other dominant federations in the competition.

The three races were held in difficult snow conditions due to the strong episodes of humidity that, after the snowfall on Thursday, occurred during the weekend and which forced the suspension of the Supergiant on Friday. However, the president of the FADI, Carlos Santandreu, underlined that the work of the Activities and Competition team of Cetursa Sierra Nevada on the piste managed to carry out most of the competition programme in "a very complicated weather situation".

Candela Pradillo (Ski Club Granada), first in the U16 Ladies giant, Marcos Álvarez (White Camp), with two second places in the two U14 Men giants, Javier Fernández (White Camp), second in one of the U14 giants, Oliver Martín (Nevada Sport Club), second in another men's giant, and Álvaro del Pino (Nevada Sport Club), third in the U16 giant, were the most outstanding Andalusian runners and presented their candidature for the overall Spanish Cup in their respective age groups and disciplines.

With these results, Javier Fernández from Malaga leads the overall U14 Spanish Cup while his teammate from White Camp Sierra Nevada, Marcos Álvarez from Granada, with two second places this weekend, is fifth. On the other hand, Candela Pradilla from Ski Club Granada, from Madrid, with her victory this weekend, improves notably her position in the overall (7th), since the discreet result of the first race of the Cup in Astún, weighs down her overall ranking in the season.
