Orientation Sport is a physical-sports practice that sets the body and mind alike, and provides the opportunity to enjoy direct contact with Nature, without age or fitness limits.
It is a sport perfectly regulated by the respective International Federation (IOF). The maps, very precise and detailed, have been made following an IOF symbology that, although very complete, does not offer major problems that are oriented for the first time.
As with most sports, there is an entity that regulates Orientation Sport at the international level; the International Orienteering Federation (I.O.F.). In Spain we have the Spanish Federation of Sport Orientation (F.E.D.O.) and in Andalusia the Andalusian Federation of Sport of Orientation (F.A.D.O.).
Participants have to search for a number of marked places on a map. These places, called controls or beacons, are represented on the map by magenta circles, magenta triangle for output, and two magenta concentric circles representing the goal. On the ground the control or beacon is a triangular fabric prism with squares of 30 x 30 cm. divided into two triangles of white and orange.
To find the beacons, in addition to the map, the athlete can only help himself from a compass, which is not essential. The tours will be carried out in a timed way, although it is also a common practice to make the tours without the pressure of time, in a non-competitive way, thus becoming the activity in a different and very fun way to enjoy a natural or cultural environment.
