Lucas Eguibar dominates, from start to finish, the SBX World Cup in Sierra Nevada

Lucas Eguibar today wrote a new gold page in the history of winter sports and the Sierra Nevada as he prevailed with authority at the Snowboard Cross World Cup (SBX) held today at the Granada winter station, a test he dominated from start to finish.

The RFEDI rider, who marked the best time in qualifying in the morning, was winning all the final series until he was in the final round with one of his great rivals on the SBX World Cup circuit, Austrian Alessandro Haemmerle - second today in Sierra Nevada allowing him to become leader of the world cup general- , and the Italian Lorenzo Sommariva, leader to Sierra Nevada but who failed to enter the grand final.

"It was my best World Cup win. Winning at home is the best thing to ask for: I stayed with the gold spiny in 2017 (it was second individual and team) and we already have him here," Eguibar said as soon as I crossed the finish line of the track in Loma de Dílar, in front of dozens of fans who cheered him up. Eguibar moves from 10th to sixth place overall of the World Cup.

"I've always gone very well, I've never looked back. I haven't had to fight anyone, that's what's been easy. Since the first descent today, I told my team that I was feeling very well, even in the standings I was not going to look for the best time, I was simply looking for good feelings," he added that with the Sierra Nevada one he added 4 victories at the SBX World Cup.

Less lucky did his teammate Regino Hernandez who, lasted for much of the season due to the injury he suffered in the summer, was unable to progress to the decisive rounds. He did qualify for the final series, but on the first descent he fell off when he received a jump that ends in a curve.

"I knew that if you risk a little bit I could pass them, but when I risked I went to the ground. The sensations were good, for me it has been a year of transition, a little bitter after breaking the two vertebrae in preseason. I already want to go back to training, competing and coming back next year with more strength," said the Andalusian rider.

In the women's final an old acquaintance of The Sierra Nevada, the French Chloe Treshpeuch, who has to have the circuit of the Granada station a talismanic stage, since at the 2017 World Championships she hung the gold in snowboard cross. Then came World Cup leader Michella Moioli, while Australian Belle Bronckhoff was third.
