Sierra Nevada completes the first phase of the replacement of two chairlifts

The pylons and stations of the Emile Allais and Veleta II chairlifts have been dismantled

Cetursa Sierra Nevada and Doppelmayr have completed the first phase of the work to replace the old Emille Allais and Veleta II chairlifts, with the dismantling of the old pylons and the upper and lower stations of both lifts. Only 2 of the 28 bollards of the old chairlifts remain standing (corresponding to Veleta II). The new installations consist of fewer towers, reducing the number of units by almost 50% from the current 28 to the 15 planned.

The project management team, together with the environmental authority, have recently been working on the layout of the new stations and pylons that will be required for the new Emile Allais and Veleta chairlifts. The works are in accordance with the mandatory Unified Environmental Declaration that affects these chairlifts and their layout on the ground has followed the environmental indications in order to produce the least possible impact. The work, co-financed by ERDF-React funds, also complies with the permits issued by the Delegación de Medio Ambiente, Fomento and the Ayuntamiento de Monachil.

During the works, the plant species indicated by the environmental management of the works will be removed by hand and sent to the nursery of the Hoya de Pedraza Botanical Garden for subsequent replanting; subsequently, compensatory and recovery measures will be carried out in the affected areas with the corresponding monitoring.

Some of the new components are already in the storage areas of Borreguiles, coming from the Austrian factory of Doppelmayr, in order to start their installation as soon as possible.

The replacement of the fixed grip chairlifts with the latest generation of detachable lifts will substantially improve the Borreguiles area, with a smaller number of towers, as the new Emile Allais, which has the same route as the current one, will require 6 pylons (as opposed to the current 9).

The future Veleta II chairlift - the lower station of the new lift will change its location with respect to the current one - for another 455 metres higher - it will change from a 3-seater chairlift and fixed clamp to a 6-seater detachable one that will improve the distribution of customers on the beginners' slopes.
