The Sierra Nevada ski resort has received the National Snow Award, awarded by the RFEDI, to the ski resort and with mountain with the greatest sporting involvement in the 2019-2020 season, during the IV Snow Sports Gala also organized by the RFEDI and ATUDEM. The Spanish federation has thus recognized, with the excellent Award 'ATUDEM', to the Granada station its "organization and development" of the FIS World Cup test of Snowboard Cross in March 2020 with the magnificent result of the first position for rfEDI athlete Lucas Eguibar.

Cetursa Sierra Nevada CEO Jesús Ibáñez thanked the RFEDI for awarding this award and highlighted "the pride for Sierra Nevada of hosting the World Cup celebration"

"Sierra Nevada is already competing and enjoying," said Ibáñez, then stressing the need "for all national, regional, provincial and local sports authorities to be involved in order to organize tests as important as those that were organized at the station this past year." He has recalled the competitive trajectory, starting with the organization of the 1996 Alpine Skiing World Championship, followed by other competitions such as the 2015 Universiada or the 2017 World Snowboard and Freestyle Ski Championships.

The 'Israel Planas' Award for best coach of the season has fallen to the Granadino José Luis Alejo Hervás, for his 18 years of professional career within the World Cup, as coach of Spain, Canada and Switzerland, where he is currently physical trainer of the athlete Lara Gut, who returned to the World Cup stadium in the Super Giant of Bansko.

Alejo, who has worked with competition clubs in Sierra Nevada, was with María José Rienda in her first World Cup victory in Are 2005 (Sweden) and developed a long career as a technician (13 seasons) with Carolina Ruiz that led to her victory in   the 2013 Meribel World Cup relegation.
