At the station 23 September 2020

Do you want to know where the 100 new 'cannons' have been installed?

Do you want to know where the 100 new 'cannons' have been installed?
  • The Produced Snow department will start testing the entire system in mid-October
  • TR10 and TL6 have been distributed mainly in the central axis of the domain, lower parts and in Loma de Dílar

The hundred new state-of-the-art guns purchased this summer for the 2020/21 winter season have already been installed in the ski domain of the station, which in turn led to the relocation of 44 devices and the definitive low of another 43 (with more than 15 years of service). In total, Sierra Nevada has more than 300 snow production guns, almost all automatic.

The new TR10 (15 fixed and 4 mobile) and TL6 (81 units) stand out for their high performance in marginal conditions and high efficiency in light and water consumption. This was seen last season by technicians from Sierra Nevada and Techno Alpin (the leading Italian multinational in the snow sector produced) with the 33 'cannons' of the same models acquired a year ago.

As planned, the new acquisitions have been distributed mainly the backbone of the station, from the top of the Stadium Chairlift (3,000 meters) to Pradollano (2,100 meters) passing through the Beginners area of Borreguiles. Its installation will have a great impact in the lower parts of the ski domain, with special prominence in the final sections of tracks such as El Río, Maribel and Loma de Dílar.

The 44 'repositioned' guns, which still have acceptable performance (20 low pressure models M10/12/15/18/20 and 24 high pressure type A9/30), have been moved, among other tracks, to the Zahareña. It is planned, once the season begins, to move several of them to the head of the 'black' treasure fountain track.

MAIN DIFFERENCES BETWEEN A TL6 AND A TR10

  • TL6. High-pressure cannons. Fixed with limited possibility of being rotated (only manually). Lower production capacity than TR10 but with greater operating possibilities in adverse weather conditions (fog, snowfall). You need compressed air supply from a power plant via pipe. Increased need to move produced snow (accumulated under the canyon) with track machines.
  • TR10. Low pressure guns (with turbine and air compressor locally integrated). Most fixed in a certain location, have the possibility of motorized rotation up to 360 degrees. Greater capacity and production distribution than TL6, so they are especially suitable for insingsing large areas and tracks with strong slope. It does not need power supply with central compressed air. Less need to move snow produced with track machines.
